Aspen’s most expensive home is billionaire William Koch’s $89 million estate

William (Bill) Koch, the famous billionaire sailor and art collector, has listed his humongous estate in Aspen, Colo., for $89 million -making it the most expensive home in America's Canary City.

Koch purchased the 55-acre Castle Creek valley estate in 2007 for $26.4 million when it was an Elk Mountain Lodge. He then converted the place into a vacation home, according to the Aspen Daily News Online, which broke the news of the listing.

Lorrie Winnerman is representing the property, which has a 32,614-square-feet main home and nine other buildings including a guest house and a modern gym.

Curbed dug up the listing photos of the estate. The main residence reportedly has 15 bedrooms and five full bathrooms as well as 11 three-quarter baths - a mansion in its own. The interiors were re-designed by architects Rowland + Broughton, who reportedly changed the topography, added a new septic system and also built a bridge and a road.

Interiors are clad in wood - hardwood flooring, beamed and vaulted wood ceilings and wooden French windows and doors. There is a modern kitchen, a family room and formal living and dining areas. The drawing room has a stone fireplace.

"It's tasteful and intimate, it's not gaudy. It wasn't over the top," said Tim Estin, a real estate agent based in Aspen, to the Aspen Daily News Online.

Koch's residence beats any other home in the area when it comes to the price. In fact, it is now one of the top ten most expensive estates in the United States. Before Koch's home came on the market, Aspen's most expensive home was listed at $45 million, the same residence where Rihanna spent her 26th birthday. Check that house out here.

Koch owns a bear ranch just outside Aspen, which he is revamping to include a train station, jailhouse, saloon and a firehouse. The 21,000-square-feet property will be used to frame his Old West memorabilia paintings and some other art collections, the Real Estalker reported earlier.

The billionaire also has an Osterville, Cape Cod mansion up on the market - the price of which has been reduced to $12.5 millionfrom $15 million. He also owns another residence in the area, which he purchased from Bunny Mellon last year.

Currently, Koch lives at his Palm Beach residence.
