Pharrell Williams Launches a Housing Project in Detroit

Grammy Award Winner Pharrell Williams is going to work with Alexander Gorlin, a housing developer, for a housing project in Detroit.

According to thegrio.com, though the land and the needed permits to get on with the project are not yet finalized, there is a possibility that the housing project will be built on city- owned lands that are empty. Laos, the homes will be prefab houses. Different parts of the homes will be made in factories and will be taken to the locations after.

Paul Emery, chairman of the North Corktown Neighborhood Association said "I've seen some plans that fill up a lot of empty space, with different types of housing, including single unit housing that look like the stuff in Lafayette Park."

John Roach, a spokesman for Mayor Mike Duggan's office, said "The city talks to developers all the time. As a rule, we do not comment on potential development projects unless there is an agreement in place."

In a report by detroitnews.com, other plans of using empty city- owned land were proposed before specifically in west of Burton International School at 2001 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Emery also said that representatives of Gorlin have been visiting North Corktown for the past year to scout potential places for the housing project. Emery shared that he didn't know who the developer was but he knew that Pharrell Williams is the major investor.

According to the report, "City officials told the North Corktown neighborhood group last month that city is exploring three or four potential major development projects for the neighborhood."

Gorlin is known to be the founder of Alexander Gorlin Architects whose projects include apartment buildings, schools, religious buildings, residential work and affordable housing.

Williams became well- known as a singer, rapper, record producer, songwriter and fashion designer.
