The recent hit "Hello" performed by Adele has been sitting in the number one spot for six weeks already and has shown no signs of coming down any time soon. The limelight has always been favoring the artist on the number spot but it most of the spots within the Top 10 of this week and the week before this one's Billboard Hot 100 has been picked up by Canadian artists.
Although number one is great, it is worth noting that the spots before that are important as well. Justin Bieber's "Sorry" is coming second to Adele's hit, "Hello." Adele's latest album has been setting records. Selling 900,000 copies on its first day, 25 has is maintaining a good download rate with 3.38 Million Sold on its first week alone, according to Nelsen Music.
According to Billboard, US-born acts have been reigning in the scene since 1958. It was only during the Beatle's era that the US records faced a good challenge from foreign music. In 1964, the British invasion began in the American Top 10 Hits. First was the Beatles holding five places at once with their songs that drove the world crazy with music and the message that their songs radiated with, April 4, 1964. The British invasion led to British artists taking over the charts.
Canada has had its fair share of hits in the charts but not really as remarkable as the US-born artists and the British. It was not until recently when artists, Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes and Alessia Cara picked all 7 places in the Top 10 list.
Here are the songs in chronology as posted by Billboard:
No. 2, "Sorry," Justin Bieber
No. 3, "Hotline Bling," Drake
No. 4, "What Do You Mean?," Justin Bieber
No. 5, "The Hills," The Weeknd
No. 6, "Stitches," Shawn Mendes
No. 7, "Love Yourself," Justin Bieber
No. 10, "Here," Alessia Cara
Billboard predicts that there is a possibility of the 2 remaining spots to be claimed by Canada if Drake and Justin Bieber could score another hit on the charts but beating Adele's "Hello" is practically impossible.
