Being a novice in a career is natural for everyone. Apparently, nobody has become an expert in any field without undergoing the amateur phase. However, if you can do it right the first time, then you definitely should. For new real estate agents or even anyone in any field, there are few things that are overlooked and taken for granted. But, they do count.
Here are some of the things that you, as a new real estate agent as told by Mary Shanklin on Orlando Sentinel, must not do:
- Not knowing the necessary regulations and laws.
No one is excused from not knowing the law. As for a real estate agent that would be taking care of properties that are very beneficial to the state and the nation, he must always know the underlying regulations as to the transactions he is about to undertake.
- Pleasing everyone.
You cannot please everyone. That is one of the many basic rules of life. Many agents will take every client that comes their way. Learn to refer to other agents if you think you cannot do the job better than another person. This will also help you widen your network.
- Making your social media presence the most important.
Although social media presence is very much needed such as your LinkedIn profile, your listings on real estate websites such as Realtor, Zillow and Trulia, and Facebook fanpages, prioritize. Do not use up your time and energy on social media. Clients would love it more if you actually reach out to them personally.
- Spending like there is no tomorrow, and not having a personal financial management.
Although you may earn huge amounts of money on one transaction, you will always end up with nothing at the end of the day if you don’t incorporate financial management into your system.
- Seeing colleagues as competitors.
They may be one of your competitors, but it should not be the hindrance for you not to make a good relationship with your colleagues. There are a lot to learn from fellow real estate agents. Moreover, opportunities might knock on your door, just by growing your network of agents.
