Playing in the professional league like the NBA is really exciting and full of surprises, especially for a rookie. A rookie player who previously had a great game time during their college years would perhaps be expecting same atmosphere in the NBA. However, the reality of adjustment is to be expected by a rookie in the league. And such is the case of Bobby Portis, a rookie player of the Chicago Bulls.
Bobby Portis shared his sentiment about the playing time being given to him by his coach Fred Hoiberg. Portis via csnchicago expressed his view saying that, "Once I got drafted I kind of knew. It's not that hard to tell." The rookie player has already expected his fate with the team, especially that there are many frontcourt options like Pau Gasol, Nikola Mirotic, Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson that his coach could choose from.
However, such scenario did not diminished the enthusiasm of Portis. His attitude with the team and every game was noticed by coach Hoiberg. His coach was even more than willing to let him play more time soon. Hoiberg via csnchicago stated that, "He's a great attitude, great spirit, he's doing all the things that he has to do to keep himself ready for when that time comes that his name is called, which again will happen sometime this season and most likely sometime soon."
The statement of the coach was of course being supplemented by his fellow teammates. Veteran players Gibson and Noah was keen enough to encourage the rookie and uplift his spirit. Portis shared that the veteran players in their team was telling him to be ready always. According to Portis via csnchicago, "(Joakim Noah) and Taj (Gibson) always tell me that their rookie years they were sitting on the bench and something happened, someone got traded or injured and then they started playing. So they told me to stay ready because things happen in this league that are crazy and things can change easily."
And Portis on his part understood the pointers that he received from the veteran players. He even admitted that, "they've been here longer than I have and obviously I'm a rookie so I have to play to my role and my role is to be a positive guy on the bench and cheer for my teammates and be the best teammate possible. My role is not to play right now. I'm cool with waiting on my turn and once my turn comes then I'll be the Bobby Portis I've always been."
