Chicago’s Most Expensive Single-Family Home Officially Hits the Market for $18.75 Million

A Lincoln Park mansion in Chicago, Ill., has hit the market for $18.75 million making it the most expensive single-family home listing of the "Windy City."

The huge mansion sits on five city lots and is owned by Tim and Alicia Mullen, a wealthy philanthropist couple. According to Chicago Now, the residence was listed a couple of months ago privately, but wasn't featured in the MLS. It was being shown to pre-qualified buyers only and there was hardly any info on the mansion.

Now, Curbed Chicago is reporting that the home has hit the MLS along with photos and more details.

The prestigious Burling Street mansion was built by the BCG & D Homes and designed by the architect Wayne Zediker for tech entrepreneur Robert Bernardand and his wife, Elisa. The Mullens purchased the residence in 2002 from Bernardand for $9.5 million, creating a record for being the most expensive home sale at that time.

The Burling Street residence has grabbed the crown for being the most expensive listing in the city, dethroning philanthropist Ann Lurie's Gold Coast mansion, which now lists for $15 million. Lurie's property was also asking $18.75 million, but she recently divided the listing, separating the residence from a side yard that currently asks $4 million, reports Chicago Real Estate Daily.

Listing records of the mansion state that the residence spans an area of 20,000-square-feet and is comprised of six bedrooms and eight-and-a-half bathrooms.

The limestone-clad house has stunning exteriors. Manicured lawns with custom designed "cone-shaped" lights brighten up the gardens that are adorned with statuettes and provide for ample lounging areas.

The entrance of the house opens into a formal living room that has a fireplace. Interiors of the home feature hardwood flooring, French doors and windows and high drywall ceilings.

The two-story house has formal dining areas, a library, a breakfast room, a great room, a recreation room, a study and a modern kitchen. An atrium snakes its way through the rooms on the main level and is connected via a sweeping staircase to the upper floor.

The home has an "award-winning" indoor pool and a theater as well. It offers beautiful views of the city and has a 6-car garage and a guest house too.

The listing at Estately.com describes the home as "the most beautiful property in the city or suburbs" adding that "There has never been a residence of this significance on the market. This is not just an estate, it is a lifestyle and far exceeds all expectations."

Currently, the most expensive listing of Chicago is a penthouse at the Trump International Towers that's asking $32 million. The sophisticated tower recently caught the public glare after owner Donald trump put up a huge "TRUMP" sign on the building. Residents thought it was really "arrogant" of the property mogul and the sign scars the city's clean skyline.
