Janet Yellen, the chairperson of the U.S. Federal Reserve, has a reputation of triggering off-market sentiments with her comments and economic decisions, but this time the monetary head is facing heat from her neighborhood for keeping lazy, expensive, fat and incompetent bodyguards.
Yellen, who lives in the upscale gated community of Hillandale in Georgetown, is now being slammed by residents for her ridiculous security detail who are apparently spoiling the aesthetics of the high-end community, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Residents are complaining that Yellen's security detail is not just disturbing, but also exorbitant. The guards live just about a block away from Yellen and the government is reportedly paying $6,000 a month of taxpayer's money to accommodate the security.
But, the guards are a nuisance! A resident tells the Journal that the blue-uniformed, gun-and-doughnut-belly-baring security cops are always gorging on fast food and breaking the 15 m.p.h speed limit.
"These characters are only here for Janet Yellen. They're not going to be distracted by robbers, rapists, or any other thing. Besides, these guys couldn't catch a thief if their lives depended on it," a resident told the Daily Caller.
"We have this group, overweight, wearing the most ridiculous blue uniforms with the most ridiculous blue caps, and they have guns that are visible," a neighbor complained adding that their presence is "uncomfortable for residents of various religious persuasions," like the Quakers.
Also, the guards have placed a camera on top of Yellen's roof that looks like a streetlight and is another major disturbance for the residents. They now want the government to cut back on the "excessive security detail."
Fed officials told The Journal that they have been working closely with the community's homeowners association and have been responding to the complaints. The roof-top camera has been taken down already.
However, not everybody is pissed with Yellen's security detail. According to Gawker, a few residents think that some of the complaints have been "over articulated."
The folks at Curbed are comparing Yellen's community issues to Justin Bieber's infamous stint at the gated Calabasas neighborhood in Los Angeles. The trouble Bieber's community residents had is not even a third of what Yellen's community is facing.
While the guards' over speeding and smoking may be "somewhat" in line with Bieber's actions, at least we don't expect the policemen to be hurling eggs and profanities at a neighbor and his/her residence.
