'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Deleted Scene Reveals The History Behind Drax The Destroyer's Tattoos

Marvel Studios released their Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection last December 8, which includes a deleted scene explaining the truth behind Drax the Destroyer's tattoos.

The video which still has unfinished effects shows a drunken conversation among Dave Bautista's Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

Referring to his tattoos, Drax began, "This is the history of my life. This here, my soul union with Ovette upon Mount Kilos."

From there, Drax tells the story of his life, weeping. This is a significant moment as this is the only time the character ever wept. Rocket Raccoon then asks if he cried when his wife and daughter were killed by his nemesis Ronan. The question drives Drax to anger. He tells the anthropomorphic raccoon not to mention their names. This starts a drunken argument between the two where Rocket tries to level with Drax by sharing he has also experienced his own form of family tragedy.

One of the possible reasons why the scene was deleted is because the Guardians of the Galaxy already showed the audience how Drax lost his family at the hands of Ronan. It is likely that Director James Gunn found this scene redundant.

With this revelation about Drax's tattoos, there are speculations that the character may get more tattoos to represent his adventures as he travels across the galaxy with the other Guardians. The upcoming sequel may also give fans a deeper insight into Drax's tattoos. Both of these rumors are yet to be proven until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5, 2017. For now, the movie is still in pre-production.

Meanwhile, the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection is now available on Amazon. It contains 13 discs and comes in a collectible packaging designed by artist Matt Ferguson. Aside from the deleted scene from the Guardians of the Galaxy, the set is overflowing with various Marvel memorabilia.
