Chris Davis checked the seven-year, $150 million offer from the Baltimore Orioles and said, "I'll think about it."
According to Camden Chat, Roch Kubatko of MASN reported Tuesday that the Baltimore Orioles are serious about keeping Davis for a long time that they have extended him an offer believed to be around $150 million.
This contract, if accepted, would make him the owner of the richest contract in Baltimore Orioles' history, topping Adam Jones who was offered an $86.5 million extension in 2012.
Davis had 47 home runs in 2015 and 159 homers, leading the majors over the past four seasons. It is more than any other player on the free-agent market.
He was second in the American League in RBI's having 117 this season as well as the only player in the past five seasons to hit at least 50 home runs in one season, blasting 53 for the Baltimore Orioles in 2013.
Scott Boras, Davis' agent, acknowledged Wednesday that they had many discussions with the Baltimore Orioles.
"I don't draw lines in the sand," Boras said. "My job is to take information, and, unless Chris directs me to, you usually try to keep the doors open for everyone to listen and advance what they want to advance. I think when you put time frames on this; it really prevents the new idea that sometimes put deals together."
Boras said that the report about the seven-year and $150 million offer is "inaccurate," when he asked if could confirm it, as reported by the ESPN.
However, the Baltimore Orioles will not wait. They want Davis and they want an answer from him.
The Baltimore Orioles are also looking at some point that they are going to have to move on considering other options. There are rumors that the team has been exploring for Davis alternatives. These alternatives might be the free agent Pedro Alvarez, or trade targets like Mitch Moreland and Adam Lind. Does this means Dan Duquette is getting closer to "decision time?"
