The New York City home of Jacqueline Kennedy, the former first lady of America, has hit the for-sale market for $44 million.
The New York Post broke news of the listing noting that hedge fund manager David Ganek and his novelist wife Danielle purchased the house for $19.1 million in 2005. Ganek's firm shut down in 2011 after it was found guilty of insider trading. The company has since agreed to pay $21.5 million in fines to the SEC.
Ganek and his wife never really lived in the property. They used the residence to show off their vivid art collection.
According to the Zillow Blog, Kennedy lived in the apartment at 740 Park Avenue while she was in elementary school. The building, which has a super strict co-op board, was developed by Kennedy's grandfather James T Lee.
The building has drawn several high profile residents like Vera Wang and billionaire David Koch. In fact, the French government's record-breaking $70 million condo took up two floors in the building.
Kennedy's former residence is also a duplex condo taking up the sixth and seventh floors of the 19-story building.
Floor plans on Streeteasy show that the entrance opens into a grand gallery that has a power room. The gallery opens into a large living room that has a library to its right and a dining room to its left.
The main floor also has a modern kitchen with a breakfast room. There are two staff quarters on the floor as well.
The upper level can be accessed by a staircase that leads into another gallery. Right ahead sits the grand master suite complete with two offices; separate his and her baths and walk-in closets. Three guest bedrooms, a laundry and a media room complete the floor.
Listing photos show sophisticated interiors with mixed marble and tile flooring, large glass windows and high soaring ceilings.
"Offered in superb condition, this newly renovated residence was finished to the highest standards and offers a chic contemporary take on a classic Park Avenue residence," the listing, which is held by Sotheby's International Realty, notes.
Many other Kennedy family homes are available on the market either for sale or rent including the "Winter White House" residence in Palm Beach, Fla., where the family vacationed and Caroline Kennedy's Martha's Vineyard parcels. Max Kennedy's Pacific Palisades home is up for rent at $20,000 a month.
