Anime News: Second Season for ‘Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma’ Confirmed

The hit cooking anime show 'Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma' has been confirmed to have its second season.

Crunchyroll reported that the second 2016 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is set to reveal that there would be a second season of the anime adaptation of Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's cooking competition manga "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma". The announcement will also be made in line with the commemoration of the third anniversary of the manga's launch.

The story of "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma" revolves around the dream of Yukihira Soma to become a full-time chef in his father's restaurant and surpass his father's culinary skill. But his father, Yukihira Jouichirou, shut down their restaurant to cook in Europe at the same time that Soma graduates from middle school. Before leaving, Jouichirou enrolled Soma to an elite culinary school that is very difficult to enter and only has a graduate rate of 10 percent. Jouichirou then challenges Soma to survive through the school if he hopes to surpass his culinary skills.

According to Anime News Network, the 24-episode first season of the anime were aired from May to September. The cooking anime was streamed simultaneously in North America as it was being aired in Japan by Crunchyroll while Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for North America.

The original manga is being published by Viz Media in North America. The ninth volume of the manga was released in print in December 1. Viz Media is also digitally publishing the latest volumes in the manga as Shueisha publishes them on Japan.

The second issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine also reveals that event anime special about the Aldini brothers will get a DVD release with special editions of the manga's 18th volume on May 2.The deadline for pre-order for the special edition will be on February 29.
