You can now live like the "Queen of Mean" for $65 million. A Greenwich, Conn., estate that once belonged to Leona Helmsley has reportedly hit the market for the exclusive price tag.
The Wall Street Journal broke the news noting that the residence hit the market after it was given a complete makeover.
Helmsley and her husband reportedly bought the house for 411 million in 1983. The Helmsley estate sold it for $35 million in 2010, after several failed attempts of unloading it at $125 million. The new owners listed the place for $43 million in 2011, but took it off the market for renovations and now, it has come back with a bang for a reasonable asking price.
We call the price reasonable because the estate is laden with the latest amenities. The listing of the property is held by Jane Howard Basham of David Ogilvy & Associates, a partner of Christie's International Realty.
According to the listing, the residence now covers an area of 17,493 square feet. The size has slightly been reduced from its original square footage. Comprising of nine bedrooms and eight full and four half bathrooms, the multi-winged two-storey house now boats of roomy interiors with French windows and doors.
The house has several sitting and living areas. There is a modern kitchen with a midrise island and fireplaces in most living areas. The bedrooms have large closets and the master bath has a claw foot tub too.
Outside, the home has open courtyards and is surrounded by rolling greens. According to the listing:
"Set on a magnificent scenic crest of a breathtaking plateau that is often referred to as the most beautiful part of Greenwich, this unique estate has undergone major renovations over the past three years. "
"The property, 600 feet in elevation with amazing East, South and West views is stunning, surrounded by old stone walls and stately trees. Large comfortable rooms with banks of windows, marvelous detailing and paneling, stunning floors, subtle colors, and serene quiet make this home a one-of-a-kind experience just an hour away from New York City."
