Controversial 'Counter-Strike: Global Offensive' R8 Revolver Nerfed After Community Backlash

Besides the massively popular shooter game "Call of Duty," there is another shooter game that is equally popular sans the attention, "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" (CS:GO). According to Forbes, CS:GO is considered as one of the world's biggest shooters. It is also considered the most competitive online game that is why it is a very hugely followed e-Sports game.

The addition of a single new weapon to replace the Desert Eagle Pistol has sparked a big hullabaloo. It is controversial, not because it is $150 (in-game currency) more expensive than the $700 Desert Eagle Pistol, but because it is known to throw the game completely off balance.

As written in the CS:GO's official blog site, Valve describes the new weapon as, "The R8 Revolver delivers a highly accurate and powerful round at the expense of a lengthy trigger-pull. When emergency point-blank stopping power is required, fanning the hammer boosts rate-of-fire, but eliminates precision."

One player could not agree more and has taken to Reddit forums to share, "It has insane range, is perfectly accurate while moving, one-shots in the gut at ludicrous range, one-shots in the chest from medium range, and can be quickly emptied with the alt fire which is more effective at close range than any shotgun."

Moreover, according to Polygon, because many players reportedly hate how unfair this new weapon seems to be, ESL has decided not to deploy the latest patch for the ESL Proleague season 2 finals, with the ESL President James "Kennigit" Lampkin announcing via Reddit, "After consulting with players, we've decided to play the ESL Proleague Season 2 Finals on the previous patch before 1.35.1.2. With the number of game play changes and weapon changes, we all felt that this is really important to maintain the competitive spirit of the event given the amount of money and prestige on the line."

And as quick as the weapon was added, Valve must have realized that it is way too powerful. In a more recent news, according to IGN, Valve is rebalancing the debatable new weapon, writing on a blog post, "On Tuesday we shipped some major gameplay changes in CS:GO including the R8 Revolver, and players have been voicing legitimate concerns over the balance of the weapon as shipped. It's clear that we got the damage wrong and can respond immediately."
