Madonna is back on the headlines as she defended her ex-husband Sean Penn against rumors that he physically assaulted the singer. The couple have been together for four years, from 1985 to 1989, but eventually went their separate ways.
During their four year relationship, speculations emerged that Sean Penn physically abused her by tying her on a chair and hitting her. Though these may just be allegations, Madonna defended her ex-husband by submitting a sworn statement in Manhattan Supreme court last Thursday.
Her sworn statement is needed to support he ex-husband's $10 million defamation lawsuit which was filed against Lee Daniels.
Just this year, Daniels made a statement caused a buzz. It is when the "Empire" creator stated that Terrence Howard [who has several records of violence against woman] is no different that Sean Penn and Marlon Brando.
During an interview, Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter that:
"Ain't done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn, and all of a sudden he's some f - - kin' demon."
Daniels' statement did a negative impact on Penn's reputation, which caused Penn to file a lawsuit. Appropriate legal actions were already filed but Daniels made a response in the court papers stating: "Google search of 'Sean Penn and domestic violence' produces 432,000 results."
In relation to the lawsuit, Madonna defended Penn stating that these allegations that "Penn hit her in 1987 and tied her to a chair in 1989 are "completely outrageous, malicious, reckless and false."
Madonna openly stated that she and Penn may have gone through hated arguments, but Sean Penn never hit her nor physical assaulted her. She even described her ex-husband as caring and compassionate.
"While we certainly had more than one heated argument . . . Sean has never struck me, 'tied me up,' or physically assaulted me."
