FOX hit drama, "Bones" Season 11 finale ended with a great shocker as a huge explosive happened that can change the course of the show's storyline.
"Bones" fan favorites were able to make it all alive in the season 11 fall finale, however, someone became paralyzed from waist down. During the finale episode, James Aubrey, Jack Hodgins and Camille Saroyan visited a crime scene that puts them unexpectedly near a bomb. Before Aubrey could warn them, the bomb exploded which left four other police officers killed. Aubrey risked his life in order to save Hodgins but at the end of the episode, Hodgins collapsed and the doctor informed Angela that the injury affected his spine and so he can't feel his lower part of the body. Will Hodgins be able to walk again?
It has been reported that the explosive twist in the season 11 finale is intended in order to explore new dimensions in Hodgins and Angela's relationship. As can be recalled in Episode 9, Hodgins revealed to Angela that he is not yet ready for children and that broke her heart. And given this new circumstance, it will be a big challenge for the couple to make their relationship work.
In an interview with TV Line, John Collier, the show's co-showrunner, discussed the season 11 finale and a possibility for season 12. Collier shared that they did not killed off Aubrey or Hodgins because they loved both characters. He said, "it was best for the show is to have them on the show... Sweets was a very unique situation."
When asked about Hodgins' storyline and if he will still be able to walk again, Collier said, "It's in the cards, but it's going to be tough going."
"This isn't just about Hodgins. This is about Hodgins and Angela as a couple. We really want to test their relationship, and we figured this would be a good way to do it. It's going to get really difficult for them. We believe in them as a couple, but we really want to push them... There's a good chance he will never walk again."
As to the prospect of Season 12, "Right now we're approaching it as if the show is coming back, but... we could turn [the script] either way. Our hope is to keep things going into next year," Collier said.
There is no official word yet on when "Bones" will return after the midseason break but Collier thinks it could be around March or April next year.
