Warner Bros is about to relive their "Looney Tunes" universe with a solo animated feature for the fastest mouse in all Mexico, "Speedy Gonzales."
Tracking Board exclusively reported that the "Speedy Gonzales" movie will star the classic cartoon character created by Friz Freieng and Hawley Pratt. The character first appeared in 1955 before "Speedy" became part of the "Looney Tunes" and "Merrie Melodies" gang along with Bugs Bunny.
"Speedy Gonzales" is seen usually wearing an oversized yellow hat, an all-white shirt and trousers attire and a red bandanna on his neck. The character is also notable for his ability to run fast and outsmart his usual opponents. His usual animated co-stars include his cousin "Slowpoke Gonzales" and two of his rivals, "Sylvester the Cat" and "Daffy Duck."
Warner Bros will produce the film with River Edge Films' Dylan Sellers and 3Pas Studios' Eugenio Derbez under their own production companies. The studio also tapped "This Is Where I Leave You" producer Jesse Ehrman Rivers to lead the project.
This is not the first time that a production company attempted to make a "Speedy Gonzales" movie. New Line planned for the film with actor George Lopez attached to voice the animated character before it was scrapped. Meanwhile, it was not surprising for Warner Bros rebooting "Looney Tunes" because they currently have the rights to the entire franchise.
The outlet elaborated on the negative concerns about "Speedy Gonzales" and how the Mexican culture has been portrayed in the past. It was said that Cartoon Network had halted the broadcasting run of the character's episode in 2002.
As of this writing, Comic Book Resources said that there are no news who will write the screenplay or provide the voice for "Speedy Gonzales." In 2000s, "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) former cast member Fred Armisen previously voiced "Speedy" for Cartoon Network and was heard in "The Looney Tunes Show" and the direct-to-video movie, "Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run."
