Billy Joel Finally Sells Hamptons House

Billy Joel, the famous Piano man, has finally found a buyer for his Hamptons pad. The water-front residence has gone under contract for $19.9 million.

The New York Post first broke the news of the house going under escrow. It has found a taker after sitting unclaimed for several years.

The residence located in Sagaponack, Southampton, first debuted on the market asking $22.5 million in 2009. However, failing to sell then, the price was reduced to $19.9 million the following year.

Considering the recession hit market, the home was price chopped two more times to $18.5 million and $16.8 million respectively. In early 2013, Joel probably got too overwhelmed by the recovery and listed it for $23 million.

But sitting unclaimed he had to reduce the price to $22.9 million in March, this year.

Even then, the Hamptons retreat attracted no takers. At that time, Curbed and its readers discussed what was wrong with the property in much detail. The publication explained that the "the interiors" were "too busy."

"With the leggy furniture and the beams and the patterned wood floor," the living spaces weren't too pleasing apparently.

So Joel did pay attention and fixed the interiors but priced it above the recommended $18 million, at $19.95 million. It briefly came up on the rental market for $250,000 just a few days ago, but now that it has gone under contract for the asking price, so that probably won't be applicable.

Listing records of the Nate Berkus-designed home state that the residence is a 5,550-square-feet single-family home, sitting on a 1.07-acre lot. Comprising of four bedrooms and six bathrooms, the interiors of the oceanfront ranch-style house include beamed high ceilings and hardwood flooring, with large glass windows and doors that allow for panoramic views of the beach and ocean. A separate studio, a loft and open decks and terraces are also included.

The description is pretty alluring too.

"Imagine waking up to panoramic ocean views, sun-soaking on the beach just outside your back door, preparing meals in your gourmet kitchen, then falling asleep to the rolling lullaby of the sea."
