MTV's "The Challenge" seems to be actually more challenging than it usually sounds.
People reports that on Saturday, Dec. 12, a helicopter which was hired by MTV to work on the reality TV series crashed, killing the pilot and the passenger. It was on its way to Mendoza, Argentina, where the filming was ongoing. No cast or crew of "The Challenge" was on board.
In a released statement, the giant network said, "The thoughts and prayers of all at MTV and Bunim/Murray are with those who lost their lives in this tragedy and their families during this difficult time."
According to The Guardian, government officials told its official state news, Télam, that the helicopter went down t the Potrerillos Dam in west Argentina, more than 600 miles from Buenos Aires.
In addition, Variety reports that apparently, the helicopter was not authorized to travel over the dam, and the cause of the crash is still unknown, a police representative told El Sol.
"The Challenge - The Challenge: Battle of the Bloodlines" - the latest season, was shot earlier this year and began airing this month. The TV show's 28th season, "The Challenge: The Rivals III" was the cast that was in Argentina during the crash.
It can be recalled that this is the second time a helicopter accident has happened in Argentina while filming a reality show. According to The Guardian, way back in March, two helicopters collided while working on the TV survivalist show titled "Dropped." It happened while also filming but this time, it was over the rugged terrain in north-western Argentina.
It resulted to a death of all people on board. There were 10 of them. Three French athletes, pioneering sailor Florence Arthaud, Olympic swimmer Camille Muffat and boxer Alexis Vastine were among the fatalities. The show was then subsequently cancelled.
That is the risk of reality shows, it becomes too realistic. What do you think?
