"We had enough quite enough snobbery in this world without exporting it to the hereafter" - Rick Riordan, "The Throne of Fire."
And considering there is no dearth of snobs in the world, The Movoto Real Estate blog has come up with a list of the most snobby small towns in the U.S.
To compile the list, the folks at Movoto first grouped American cities with population between 65,000 and 45,000 people. Using data from the U.S. census and business listings in these areas, they analyzed factors like the median home price, the median income, percentage of people with a college degree, number of art galleries, number of private schools, number of fast food restaurants and performing arts centers in a particular area.
Their detailed research found that the snobbiest cities were located in California and Maryland, making them the snobbiest states in America.
Palo Alto, Calif., was the snobbiest town in the country with the highest number of private school and the largest percentage of people with college degrees.
Below are the top 10 most snobby cities of the country.
1. Palo Alto, Calif.
2. Bethesda, Md.
3. Brookline, Mass.
4. San Rafael, Calif.
5. Walnut Creek, Calif.
6. Hoboken, NJ.
7. Oak Park, Ill.
8. Encinitas, Calif. (tie)
8. Rockville, Md. (tie)
10. Laguna Niguel, Calif.

The Movoto Blog, however, adds that the numbers that each of these cities project make them worthy of "bragging rights."
"In all honesty, our criteria denote safe, wealthy, and interesting places to live (if you like that sort of thing.) And who are we if we cannot laugh at ourselves a little?"
While the residents of these cities are busy boasting about their area, the "less fortunate" ones (as the snobs would call them) are flocking to unhappy cities like Detroit and Cleveland. Why? Find out here.
