"Persona 5" that is exclusive for PS3 and PS4 will be released next year as announced by Altus. With that, game director Katsura Hashino discussed more about the "phantom thieves" and revealed more details about the game.
Hashino said that the theme of the game applies to all even if it was set in Japan.
"Mankind's tendency to each view the world through their own individually distorted sense of reality - and its consequences on society and relationships - is a subject that resonates across the world," he said.
The characters of the game which was revealed in a previous report will get hold of the "Isekai-Navi" which allows them to act as "phantom thieves" and they will "enter another world and steal the malicious intent from others' hearts," Hashino said in an interview with Game Informer.
It further reported that the thieves will "throw themselves headlong into helping others and reforming society with their own hands" and the only obstacles they will face are the authorities.
A twist in the game reveals that the characters will voluntarily become "phantom thieves" and will not merely get into it by accident. They will also be facing a bigger enemy. The characters of "Persona 5" are a lot different from the other "Persona" games.
"Unlike Persona 3 or Persona 4, the protagonist and his team in this story aren't being dragged into some sort of case or major crisis to resolve. The story begins with each of them looking for a sense of identity, and seeking to reform society with their own will," Hashino said. "It's quite different from the previous games' protagonists who had no choice but to solve the mysteries they were confronted with."
Hashino also revealed more about the characters. The main character isn't named yet and remains cool and silent like the previous "Persona" protagonists and is described as "something of a roguish antihero."
Meanwhile, Ryuuki "wants to reform society and believes the Phantom Thieves can do this" while Ann has a "distinct foreign air," Yusuke "thinks differently than most people" and Morgana the cat is a "prideful instructor," Game Spot noted.
"Persona 5" will be released on PlayStation 3 and 4 on summer of 2016.
