Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) is now a certified rap star, as reported by Billboard.
FLOTUS teamed up with Jay Pharoah of Saturday Night Live for a song called “Go To College” which is part of her “Better Make Room” campaign that encourages the youth to go to college.
In the video, Mrs. Obama raps a few lines about her personal experience about working hard to get good grades and succeed in life. "Southside Chicago / We all know / We had to do overtime every night to make it tomorrow / And everyone could really make their dream true / Hey kid, listenin' in Michigan, that could be you."
According to France 24, the campaign targets 14 to 19 year old students and seeks to encourage them to go to college. Mrs. Obama said in a statement, "I want to honor and empower young people who are working hard in school and pursuing their dreams - and I want to do it in a fresh and fun way.”
The campaign aims to increase the number of college graduates since the numbers have been slipping down over time.
Drops mic. The song just reached No. 1 on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart. Bragging rights are in order. President Barrack Obama also charted a song in Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart with JX Cannon’s “Pop Off” which featured the president but charted at No. 2. The song is released in Soundcloud.
Ironically, one of Pharoah’s act in Saturday Night Live is to impersonate President Obama in their sketches. I’m sure they had a good laugh along the way.
The viral video makers The Gregory Brothers helped FLOTUS and Pharoah in making the video, and was produced by makers of comedy viral videos, CollegeHumor. The video has now reached 3.6 million views since it was uploaded.
