"Luther" returns on BBC One with a two-part premiere scheduled to air on Dec. 15 and Dec. 22 in the UK. It will return on American screens with a three-hour premiere on Dec. 17 on BBC America. Spoilers were revealed in the latest trailer of the series which feature Idris Elba's character back in London as he searches for the truth while dealing with the killing of a cannibal on the loose.
After the first full-length trailer of "Luther" Season 4 was released earlier this month, the official synopsis for the upcoming episode reveals that Elba's character will be back in London. After being absent and laying low from the police force in a distant rundown cottage, he receives a visit from Detective Chief Inspector Theo Bloom and Detective Seargeant Emma Lane who bring shocking news that draws him back to London to uncover the truth. While in search for answers, he has to deal with a serial killer in the city who eats body parts after leaving his victims to die, Den of Geek reveals.
As the police force continues to fail in creating a connection out of the cannibal serial killlers' victims, Luther steps in to try to catch the culprit before another body is added up to the pile of victims. However, with a ghost from his past haunting him, it will take "every fiber of Luther's being to keep it together."
Consumed by the darkness the he has witnessed, DCI John Luther is about to face the ghost of his past, including a woman, who will be played by Laura Haddock, who brings a dark secret back to the present, testing Luther once more, Independent reports. Michael Smiley is also set to return on the Season 4 of "Luther" as the technician Benny "Deadhead" Silver.
Rose Leslie, who played Ygritte in "Game of Thrones," will be one of the few names added to the roster of stars included in "Luther's" cast.
