Apartment Complex to Have Its Own Ski Slope From Its Roof Down to the Ground

Skiing is a perfect outdoor sport during the winter season, and residents of a certain proposed apartment complex, will get to do this hobby right on top of their building. No need to go to a ski resort because all they need to do is go up their building and start skiing!

A housing complex set to be built in Kazakhstan's capital, Astana, will feature a huge outdoor ski slope from the top of a building down to its ground. The 'House Slalom' will have 21 stories, and will house 421 apartments, as well as a 1,000 feet high ski slope. According to The Telegraph, the plan has yet to be approved by Astana's government officials before construction commences.

According to the team that proposed the project, led by Architect Shokhan Mataibekov, the structure sprung from the country's long and extremely cold and snowy winters. They added that this might be the answer for snowboarding and ski lovers in the country, since there are no ski resorts in the area. Astana is one of the coldest cities in the world, and during winter, the temperature can go down as low as negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit, perfect ski weather!

If it pushes through, it will also be available during Summer. This will be made possible by a snow-like synthetic material called Snowflex, invented and manufactured by UK's Briton Engineering Developments.

The team behind the proposed structure did not mention if the slope is open to the public. But residents need not go inside their building to go back uphill, as there would be lift services in a separate entrance.

If the building goes as planned, this would be the world's first ski slope constructed on an actual building. Its head architect guarantees, "It would be an instant hit for ski and snowboard lovers."
