Reese Witherspoon, the "Legally Blonde" actress, and her husband Jim Toth have reportedly dropped $1.95 million on a fixer-upper in music city Nashville, Tenn., and are planning on a full-on renovation for the property.
The Real Estalker (via Variety) broke the news of the sale noting that Witherspoon bought it via a trust in July. The home in question here has some elite history to it.
The residence was originally built by a prominent family in Nashville in the 1930s. It first hit the market last year and was purchased by an automobile bigwig and his wife for $1.5 million. The wealthy couple bought the house because they didn't want it to be razed down and gave it a basic makeover - redoing the hardwood floors, painting the interiors and removing the kitchen and the laundry - before putting it for sale again, according to the Zillow Blog.
The owners apparently sold on a condition that the buyers will not tear down the property.
Witherspoon managed to snag the home for a slight discount, the Real Estalker notes. The home is nothing like a celebrity residence and since the "Sweet Home Alabama" star can't really tear it down completely, she has reportedly planned big renovations for the property.
Current listing records reveal that the residence is a 3,855-square-foot single-family home, comprising of four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. The two-storey residence has three fireplaces, an elegant staircase and a paneled library.
There is a pool-side guest house on the property and all together, the home sits on a plush 6.5-acre lot.
This is not Witherspoon's only residence in the city. She already owns a home in the Belle Meade area which she purchased for $760,000 in 2005.
This is also not her first renovation project. According to the Daily Mail, Witherspoon bought a Brentwood home in 2010 and tore down the residence. But after she tore the place down, she sold the vacant lot to movie directors Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy.
There are several reasons why Witherspoon bought in Nashville. Her parents live in the city and she has grown up in the area's southern culture. Also, the home she just snapped up sits in a posh neighborhood, just down the road from the Tennessee Governor's Mansion. The neighborhood is also home to singer Martina McBride and Kings of Leon rocker Matthew Followill.
The "Water to the Elephants" star also has her Brentwood Circle estate listed on the market. Read more on that property here.
