Looks like Willy Wonka has competition!
Bathrooms.com, a U.K.-based bathroom fixtures and accessories designing company, has created a full bathroom set - a tub, a sink, a bidet and a toilet - all out of pure Belgian chocolate that would add up to 9.4 million worth of calories!
But, what is the connection between a bathroom and chocolates? Apparently a spelling error.
The whole project was a result of spelling mistake. According to the official website (cheekily named Bathroomsweets.com), the company stumbled upon the idea of making a chocolate bathroom set after people started searching for "bathroom sweets" instead of "bathroom suites".
"As a consequence of shoppers searching for 'bathroom sweets' we decided to answer their search, literally," Ian Monk, CEO of Bathrooms.com, was quoted by the New York Daily News.
"Our very own exclusive chocolate bathroom suite, based on our Maderno range, was initially a bit of fun, but once we realized it was possible to actually make we knew we decided to buy Bathroomsweets.com and list the product."
Bathrooms.com partnered with British chocolate manufacturer Choccywoccydoodah to create the lavatory. Each piece in the "sweet suite" is carefully carved and made of 100 percent chocolate.
"We couldn't say no to being involved. We've made lots of things out of chocolate, but never a bathroom, so this will be a challenge and we look forward to our first order," a spokesperson for Choccywoccydoodah was quoted by ABC News.
The whole suite, designed after the Maderno range, costs around $133,000. Individual pieces of the suite are also up for sale and are available for shipping. However, the bath set will take at least two to three months' time to complete construction and will be delivered "fresh".
Note that this is not a functional bathroom (for obvious reasons). The bath set has a six-month shelf life and will melt if exposed to too much sunlight or splashed with hot water. You can take a look at the individual pieces in the slide below.
While this is an elaborate attempt at merging humor with design, many are taking this seriously. As soon as the story came out on Curbed, comments criticizing the idea started pouring in.
"I want to make a joke about being able to eat all that chocolate and Choccywoccydoo-doo at the same time, but there's nothing funny to say about it. While wearing your "food in, poo out" t-shirt at the same time? Still. No," one comment read.
Others thought the chocolate looked "lumpy and poorly sculpted."
"If this was supposed to be a publicity stunt, than I think they failed miserably. Who would buy this and would anyone eat it?"
