Fallout 4 has released its first patch on the first week of December, resulting to new features like the number pad keys having access to remapping, and fixes like general memory stability and improvements, among others.
This mere 512MB patch has a big impact on the console experience, according to Eurogamer. A technical analysis was done comparing the PS4 and Xbox versions, and PS4 apparently performs better than the Microsoft console.
Eurogamer writes, "The good news is PS4's improvements aren't limited to one targeted section, but rather, the game at large is now better optimized for Sony's machine. In particular, any combat that puts a strain on PS4's memory bandwidth--via the usual flurry of effects-work--now gets a marked boost on patch 1.02. The gains are remarkable in one early Deathclaw battle for example, going from lengthy lulls at 25fps and under when using the mini-gun on nearby sandbags, to a practically faultless 30fps with the update."
Some sections and complex locations still need some changes but according to the analysis, the PS4 version has greatly benefited from the patch and it is performing way better compared to its initial launch.
On the other hand, Xbox has not gotten enough from the patch in terms of frame rate. According to the site, "Unfortunately, all signs point to Xbox One staying largely unmoved in its frame rate delivery of Fallout 4, even with patch 1.02 installed. Tests between its launch day 1.01 and this update show few differences in the open world overall, many of which are lost within the margin of error." He added that there are some major fixes that Xbox needed to have but were not resolved by the patch.
The site concludes that there are still a lot of other fixes to be done, but at least the update has resolved a number of the major ones. Fans of this RPG, especially Xbox users are waiting for more updates from Bethesda after Patch 1.02.
