Lupita Nyong’o just smash all the red carpet and movie premiere that she set foot on. She does it again by dazzling everyone at the premiere of the new Star Wars film.
According to Hollywood Life, Nyong’o wore a dazzling silver gown complete with silver sequins and beads. It was designed with black straps on the side and all the way to the back, which is completely in cutout.
Nyong’o plays Maz Kanata, who is a female pirate. The character has been speculated that Kanata will be the new Yoda. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Kanata lives on the planet Takodana for a thousand years. She ends up being part of the resistance with Han Solo and his crew. Director J.J. Abrams teased that this character has a special meaning and power.
The award winning actress told the Herald about the technology behind the making of her character. "To me, it was an opportunity to do something that wasn't limited by my body, to play in a different playing field and be a totally different thing. I think the first time I walked on set was when it finally dawned on me. I looked around the hugest set I've ever been on and definitely had a moment of feeling like I was dreaming and not wanting to wake up," said Nyong'o.
The process of capturing Kanata was with the use of motion capture. It records the actor’s movements that will be added to the computer generated character, similar to the process of making Gollum from The Lord of the Rings movies.
According to Nyong’o, she didn’t even realize that she was auditioning for the role when he met Abrams. As reported by Cinema Blend, Nyong’o reads a non-Star Wars script with a fake gun. “There was a script from something else. You know, they give you like a substitute script… I remember crouching around. I was using my hands as a gun."
