"The Vampire Diaries" is starting to fall apart as viewers are rampantly decreasing. The decrease in ratings started after the departure of Nina Dobrev, which is one of the show's co-runner. Despite the fact that the show is slowly sinking, Dobrev stood her ground with her decision not to return.
Dobrev's absence made a great impact on the show leaving Ian Somerhalder on the sinking ship. As per the Celeb Dirty Laundry, despite the "The Vampire Diaries" downfall, Somerhalder and his wife Nikki Reed have been doing their best in saving his career. As per the website, the showrunner already gave up on "The Vampire Diaries".
Dobrev may have made the right decision as she already ended her contract with the series way before it started to fall apart. Now that she's off the show, reports stated that she's "struggling to pave a career" after her exit on the long running series. Speculations have emerged that Dobrev is currently eyeing a role on "Empire" and "The Walking Dead."
As for the show, executives already gave up on teasing Dobrev's comeback. They did try to bring in Nina's doppleganger, Leslie Anne Huff; having this done however seem to upset the fans. The show's executive producer Caroline Dries cleared out speculations that Leslie Anne is Dobrev's replacement. Though she denied these speculations, fans didn't seem to buy her excuse.
In regards to Ian Somerhalder, it was reported that he's been doing his best to save his career with the help of his wife. Nikki has been convincing her husband to take on new roles and pursue other film projects. As of Celeb Dirt Laundry, the TVD star is starting to distance himself from the series.
A report from Realty Today stated that "The Vampire Diaries" used to average 1.5 million views as of 2014, it then dropped to only 1.2 million this year as per TV Series Finale's reports. The massive decrease got fans worried that their favorite series is starting to fall apart. This being said, there are still no updates as to whether the show will be having a new season after the finale.
