The Memphis Grizzlies has been inconsistent with their performance this season. Desperate moves have been noticed coming from the coaching staff, even to the point of removing Zach Randolph from the starting lineup, but at no avail. The Memphis stands with 14 wins and 13 losses in their record, and this said performance has caused some tension within the management.
There were some rumors linking head coach Dave Joerger's career into a possible risk. According to nbcsports, Hoops Critic insider stated that, "League source tells me that Dave Joerger is extremely close to being fired." If indeed true, then it would surely affect the players and their performances in the coming games. And in times like this when a team is about to blow up, other teams are in watch for a possible trade deal.
According to some reports, the Boston Celtics has been known to be familiar of such move. Celtics Blog also pointed that, "if that (rumor) has any legs to it, but if it does, maybe ownership is ready to scrap what they have now for a monstrous trade package. Gasol is 30-years-old, but he's a legitimate star two-way center and would be a terrific system-fit with the Celtics."
The team has been waiting for a center player that could fit in with their game. If the rumors about the Grizzlies blowing up are true, as Yibada cited, then it would be a great opportunity for the Grizzlies to explore their options, making the timing perfect for the Celtics to convey their offers.
It can be remembered that the Celtics was seeking for a center player, which is why they tried targeting DeMarcus Cousins of Sacramento Kings. However, the Kings have reiterated their stand of not letting go of Cousins. That is why Celtics will be willing to gamble for the service of Marc Gasol instead. As Yibada pointed out, "Gasol may even be a better target. He is a better defensive player and he could also be the leader in the middle that the young Celtics need. Cousins could not fill that role at this time."
But still the trade scenario being projected will surely depend on the decision of the management of the Grizzlies, on whether they would continue to trust Joerger. Guess we would just have to wait and see what would be the next move of the Grizzlies and the Celtics.
