Lupita Nyong’o is a first timer in terms of acting for an inter-galactic movie such as Star Wars.
Her first acting experience for the sci-fi film, Star Wars: The Force Awaken, has apparently given her a lot of new things she is surely grateful for. The Oscar-winning actress plays the role of Maz Kanata, a short alien with a watering hole and cool glasses. According to USA Today, her character may most likely be the one who is holding the key to the a more exciting journey of the new Star Wars heroine, Rey (Daisy Ridley).
"The advice he gave me that stayed with me was 'Go about creating this character like any other role,' " says Nyong’o talking about sci-fi well-versed Andy Serkis who served as her guru for the film.
When asked about how her acting experience went for Star Wars, she replied with:
"Motion capture gave me a real appreciation for my relationship with my body and how I tell stories," Nyong'o says. "Then to be able to go back to theater where you really get to use your body to tell a story was really valuable."
"I'm very excited and full of love for this odyssey. I feel very blessed to be on the inside of it," she says.
Nyong’o also talked about sharing the screen time with Harrison Ford whom she says "was drop dead gorgeous."
"I don't even think Harrison Ford expected to do Star Wars 30 years later," she says. "Star Wars is something that really sits in a special place in many people's hearts across generations, and very few new movies can boast of that.
"So for me to be a part of that was an incredible honor and something I never in my wildest dreams thought I would have the opportunity to do."
Lupita Nyong’o is a Mexican-Kenyan actress and film director who landed her breakthrough role in the historical drama 12 Years A Slave which gave her first Oscar award. She is the first Mexican and Kenyan to win an Oscar. Moreover, she was also nominated and won several other awards.
