'Outlander' Season 2 Cast, News, Spoilers: Richard Rankin to Play Roger

"Outlander" Season 2 is still currently filming and new casts are still joining the show like Richard Rankin.

Reports indicate that Richard Rankin has joined the show to play the role of Roger Wakefield, a professor at Oxford who is interested to learn more about history. Roger was raised by the Reverend with the help of his housekeeper, Mrs. Graham, after his parents died during the World War II.

The character is the adopted son of Reverend Wakefield and was still very young when first seen in the first season as a boy played by Rory Burns. Now that he is grown up, Rankin will portray the character who is described as an “intelligent, kind hearted and charming” young man, according to The Wrap.

Roger is also said to be a “proud Scot through and through” and will be the love interest of Brianna. It is not yet clear as to how many episodes Roger will appear with Brianna.

Roger's ancestors are Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek) and Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish). Because of being a Geillis’ descendant, he has the ability to travel through time. He is also known to have ties with Claire’s acquaintances from the 1700s, International Business Times reported.

Author Diana Gabaldon, who penned the book where the show is based, welcomed Rankin alongside Bradley Cooper in "Burnt" this fall. She even warned him about her adoring fans on Twitter.

Rankin has been part of multiple TV shows that includes “The Syndicate,” “American Odyssey,” “Silent Witness,” “The Crimson Field,” “Burnistoun,” “Taggart,” ‘The Old Guys,” “Legit” and “VideoGaiden.”

Fans are excited about Rankin's casting which they expressed on Twitter. One fan wrote, "Welcome to clan outlander you'll make a great roger Mac, and your voice is beautiful!"

“Outlander” Season 2 filming is presently ongoing in Scotland. The upcoming season is based on the book "Dragonfly in Amber" written by Diana Gabaldon.

The highly anticipated Starz show is expected to return by March or April 2016.
