"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 will see the arrival of a new vampire huntress named Rayna (Leslie-Anne Huff).
In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Caroline Dries said that Huff wasn't cast to replace Nina Dobrev on the show.
Fans couldn't help but notice the physical resemblance between the two characters. This is the very reason why they believe that there's more to Rayna than just being a new villainous character on the show.
According to Design & Trend, there's a possibility that Rayna will turn out to become Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) newest love interest.
In the final scene from "Cold As Ice," Damon hallucinated that he was speaking to his late mother Lily (Annie Wersching). At first, their conversation turned out to be pleasant, but it didn't take very long for Damon to realize that he was actually speaking to another woman who wanted him killed.
Now, even though Rayna may have been shown as a villainous character in the fall finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7, fans believe that Damon will have his way to her heart once he escapes the Phoenix Stone. Other than this, among all of the male characters on the show, Damon is the only one whose fate in the three-year time-jump hasn't been sealed yet.
For instance, it was already revealed that Stefan (Paul Wesley) will end up with Valerie. Alaric (Matt Davis) will end up with Caroline, and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) will end up with Bonnie (Kat Graham). It's highly impossible that Damon wouldn't end up with a female character in the future, and Rayna is the only obvious choice as of late.
Unfortunately, if Dries and executive producer Julie Plec will write this storyline, fans will once again say that Huff was cast to replace Dobrev on the show.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 will air on Jan. 29, 2016 at 8 p.m. ET.
