The 5,871-square-foot mansion of Monica Seles, winner of nine Grand Slam singles titles, has initially listed it in 2014 for $1.85 million. Since then, it has went on and off the market.
But now, the tennis star who once ruled the tennis world in the early '90s, has already sold her home in Sarasota, FL for $1.4 million.
Joel Schemmel of Sotheby's International Realty, who handled the sale of the property says, "The home features a dramatic living room with French doors opening to the enormous pool area, making it perfect for entertaining."
According to the Realtor report, the property is beautifully located next to the Laurel Oak Country Club, and the gated mansion of the tennis legend sits on 1.5 acres that is surrounded by white stucco walls. The home is designed with Mediterranean and classical styles, with Palladian windows, large Roman columns, a two-story lanai, marble flooring, and an outdoor kitchen. Of course, the mansion features a full-size tennis court.
Her family had the home custom built in 1991, Schemmel says. At that time, at 19, she was dominating the women's tennis tour. Seles plans to downsize, but she isn't leaving Sarasota.
Tennis Hall of Famer Monica Seles is one of the greatest tennis players ever to call Sarasota home. Now she is downsizing from her 5,800-square-foot mansion in Laurel Oak to something easy to maintain, though still in Sarasota, as reported by the Herald Tribune news.
"The privacy is amazing here," said Seles. "The security. It is a great country club."
Seles loves to walk or ride a bike in a road named after notable golf-course designers such as Dick Wilson and Donald Ross.
Born in Serbia of the former Yugoslavia to Hungarian parents, Monica Seles dominated women's tennis, winning eight "Grand Slam" (French Open, Australian Open, U.S. Open and Wimbledon) singles championships from 1990 to 1993. She holds the record as the youngest tennis player, at 16, to have won the French Open women's singles title, in 1990.
