"Doctor Who" just released the latest spoilers about Series 10, Episode 0 "The Husbands of River Song." It will be broadcasted on Christmas day.
The episode is written by Steven Moffat and directed by "Sherlock" director Douglas McKinnon. The official synopsis from BBC reads: "It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy."
According to BBC America, the Christmas episode will feature the comeback of actress Alex Kingston for the role of Professor River Song. "The Husbands of River Song" will be set in the future as she meets the latest incarnation of her husband (Peter Capaldi).
Kingston's character made her debut in 2008 and it was followed up with 15 episodes. In a statement from Moffat, he said that The Doctor will meet his wife again, but he didn't disclose on what form River Song will take this time upon her return. Capaldi's character last saw River when she appeared as a ghost in a past episode.
“As ever, with the most complicated relationship in the universe, it’s a matter of time," Moffat said.
Radio Times summed up a list of the things you can expect from the special holiday offering from the longest BBC sci-fi series, "Doctor Who."
The upcoming special will have a holiday theme for its own opening title sequence. The episode will also feature some references about The Doctor and his new gadgets from Sonic City aside from his Sonic Screwdriver and River's Sonic Towel. It will entail that River doesn't remember him, but Radio Times confirmed on what timeline she came from through her Tardis Diary. Her latest diary entry will show "when and where she last saw the Time Lord and which face he was wearing." On the other hand, her forgetfulness will also be the root of The Doctor's jealousy after her few interactions with other men.
According to the outlet, a Doctor Who special wouldn't be complete without surprising guest castings based from the tradition that the show started few years ago. "The Husbands of River Song" will feature a top-secret role played by a "Game of Thrones" actor who was said to be connected to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).
Aside from Capaldi and Kingston, the cast members are Matt Lucas, Greg Davies,
Rowan Polonski, Robert Curtis, Chris Lew Kum Hoi, Phillip Rhys, Anthony Cozens, Nicolle Smart, and Nonso Anozie.
"Doctor Who" Series 10, Episode 0 "The Husbands Of River Song" will air on Dec. 25 at 5:15 p.m on BBC1.
