Apple Shuts Down Its Most Expensive Acquisition Topsy

An Apple-owned service application named Topsy, that browsed and analysed data from Twitter is shut down by the tech company. The tech giant's website now re-route to a support page of Apple about how to utilize the new upbeat Search functionality using iOS9. Topsy posted via Twitter stating, "We've searched our last tweet," and its profile bio now states "Every tweet ever published. Previously at your fingertips."

A couple of years ago, Topsy was purchased by Apple for more than $225 million, which makes it as one of the most expensive acquisitions of the Cupertino company. Although, it was not apparent what Apple has done with the staff or software of Topsy, but the redirect URL implies its analytical innovation may have been in the iOS9 Search feature, which presents details and indexes devices along with the recommended date from the Internet.

Gradually, while Apple is gearing up its social networking network, it looks like the most of the main staff who joined the Cupertino giant as part of the deal are rather focusing on the major issues of search in Apple's different platforms. For example, Topsy's ex-Chief Technology officer and co-founder Vipul Ved Prakash posted via LinkedIn that:

"Along with the incredibly talented Topsy team, I am leading the charge on the new search engines behind Spotlight & Safari. We are growing and it's a very exciting time to be at Apple."

Prakash declares his first day with Apple in the latter part of 2013, so a few days ago is the final leg of the engagement of Topsy into the bigger Apple Machine which is not really a surprise to everyone.

The shutdown is not a complete shock. Over a year ago, Apple stopped letting premium users to extend their paid accounts, making it seem that the service will be abolished.
