Fans and viewers will soon bid farewell to Molly because "Mike & Molly's" upcoming season will be its last one. The show will be coming to an end after season 6 as revealed by Rondi Reed who played as Mike's mother, Peggy. TV Line reported that Reed said that the cast members of the series already know "for a few weeks that this is the end."
Melissa McCarthy, who plays Molly, was devastated upon hearing the show's cancellation. The Emmy Award winner took it to Twitter to share her reactions and wrote, "I was shocked and heartbroken when @CBS canceled #MikeAndMolly. I would have shot this show for 50 more years. I'll miss my 2nd family."
The "Gilmore Girls" actress' emotional message on Twitter also tries to clarify to "Mike & Molly" fans that its cancellation has nothing to do with McCarthy's plans to explore more opportunities in her career.
Back in March, CBS announced that "Mike & Molly" Season 6 will have 22 episodes. But with the show being axed, the number of episodes has been reduced to 13.
Reed was the one who first announced about the sad news on her Facebook page. She wrote, "Before you hear it elsewhere (and some already have) this is the Final and 6th Season of MIKE & MOLLY on CBS. It is also a shortened season (13 episodes) after the announced full renewal of 22 episodes back in March by the network."
"The network has it's reasons, and I will not get into a debate, discussion, or campaign to get them to change their minds. Other venues were explored by WB and Bonanza Productions (Chuck Lorre) after CBS announced their intentions, but did not turn up a future for our show," Reed further explained.
"Mike & Molly" Season 6 is set to premiere on Jan. 6, 2016.
