Going down Sony PlayStation memory lane apparently comes with a huge price tag.
Sony has released its roster of PlayStation 2 games now playable through the newest version of the console, PS4, but patrons are feeling disappointed instead of nostalgic. The reason for this is the cost of each game, including Dark Cloud, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Rogue Galaxy, and The Mark of Kri, all priced at almost $15 each.
In his latest podcast on PlayStation Nation, PlayStation president Shuhei Yoshida said that the process to make the classic games be playable on PS4 does not come cheap. He said that factors like the trophies and share functions, as well as licensing and quality assurance contribute to the selling price. The emulation technology which imitates the environment of PS2 so that it could be compatible with PS4, is also quite expensive.
He explains, "We are also able to add Trophies; some people really care about Trophies. So we can provide that. And it takes some time for our staff and QA and licensing and everything to bring back these games. So it takes us time and cost. So we felt that we should charge."
The tech giant's executive also said that while one cannot expect PS2 games to have the same visual quality as the current ones today, PlayStation emulation technology guarantees an exciting experience that gamers will not get bored of.
Earlier this month, Microsoft announced through Twitter that they want to know their fans' requests in terms of what games should be emulated. Patrons are currently waiting for King of Fighters 2000, as well as Rockstar's Max Payne.
Fans of PS4 are still hoping that the prices of these games would eventually come down, but right now, Microsoft has not given any guarantees.
