This 17th century cottage in Hampshire has been passed on from owner to owner. It has gone through several repair jobs because of its age, but a couple was able to transform it into a festive cottage, a perfect abode for the holidays.
This 3-bedroom home was bought by a couple who are in the fields of interior design and IT. To begin renovating the cottage, they hired a specialist builder to restore the home with horsehair and lime. Other changes include putting oak floors on the ground floor, rebuilding the kitchen area and stationing an additional bathroom.
With their background in interior design, they began decorating the home with soft neutral shades and adding texture, which resulted to a modern looking home with a 17th century feel. Choosing neutral colors for their interiors means they can decorate the home more for the Christmas season. They used classic holiday colors to make their home festive. In their living room, a white and red Christmas banner hangs above one of their huge windows. A nativity made from native materials is on a wooden table, beside a vase full of Poinsettia which is a popular flower Christmas décor. Their pillows are dressed with festive cases which serve as accent to their white sofa. The rest of the room is strategically decorated with wreaths and garlands of fresh flowers and greens. A classic Christmas tree stands majestically on one side, with a number of presents under it.
It has been a tradition for the couple to put a Christmas display on their window that opens a view of the village. This year, they chose to have a winter wonderland theme by hanging snowflake decors and displaying a delicate collection of glass domes filled with tiny Christmas homes and animals. This gives the villagers to see their seasonal decorations as well, something that they look forward to every year.
