New York City is famous for its expensive condos mounted atop rising skyscrapers and marking that reputation, an under-construction triplex penthouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan is set to hit the market for a whopping $130 million.
The priciest condo of the Big Apple will span an area of 12,394 square feet once completed and will take up the top three floors of the tower at 520 Park Ave - a 54-storey building with 34 full floor homes.
When renderings of the building were first revealed, The Wall Street Journal quoted a source saying that the price of the penthouse would be north of $100 million.
The building, which is being developed by Zeckendorf Development Company, has seven duplexes that measure 9,138 square feet with a price range that starts from $67 million. The duplex homes will have six bedrooms, libraries and eat-in kitchens.
The single-level homes will cover an area of 4,600 square feet and their prices start from $16.2 million, Bloomberg reports.
All the residence will have "white oak hardwood flooring in herringbone and overlay patterns and a variety of over 10 exquisite marble treatments. All master bathroom suites will be comprised of two full baths complete with steam showers and soaking tub," the company said in a statement, according to Curbed.
The building starts sales from the second quarter of 2015. William L. Zeckendorf, head of the company, earlier said in the statement that the tower "will set a new standard for elegant design on Manhattan's Upper East Side, and we are certain this luxury residential building will become a landmark in a treasured city neighborhood."
The penthouse at 520 Park Avenue replaces the three Ritz Carlton penthouse apartments, which sport a $118 million price tag, as the most expensive listing of New York City.
The most expensive home in the United States is located in Florida - a gold plated mansion called the "Le Palais Royal" - costing $139 million.
Previously, the Copper Beech Farm, a mansion in Greenwich, Conn., wore the crown of the most expensive listing of the country with a massive $190 million price tag. But, it was pricechopped until it finally sold for $120 million, lower than what Le Palais Royal is listed for.
While this is the most expensive on-market home, The Manor in Los Angeles is reportedly being marketed for $150 million off the MLS.
