"House of Cards" did something exciting while a GOP Debate tonight on CNN was happening.
Last night, during the real GOP Debate, Netflix flashed an ad showing Kevin Spacey aka Frank Underwood delivering his own speech as part of his fictional presidential campaign, according to Time. This is a twist to the usual way trailers are released. Moreover, the official Twitter account of "House of Cards" announced on Twitter, "BREAKING NEWS: President Underwood will be making a special announcement tonight during the #GOPDebate."
According to Oceanside Post, the 30-second teaser is an ad that features a medley of scenes from farms, a city skyline, jets taking off to children running with American flags. Then at the end Frank Underwood appears to say, "America, I am only getting started." Then the pictures switches to a photo of him with the line on the right that says FU2016.com and a voiceover that says, "I am Frank Underwood and I approve of this message."
The fictional ad mimics a real political campaign ad. It even says at the bottom that it has been paid by "Underwood for America." The clip ends with the Netflix logo and an announcement that the new Season will premiere on March 4. The good thing about Netflix is that all the episode of season 6 are available at once so fans of "House of Cards" don't have to wait week after week for the next episode.
On the other hand, Netflix is also making this political drama seem like the real thing. The streaming service has set up a mock website for Frank Underwood's campaign. So the FU2016.com web address really works. Doug Stamper as the newly appointed Chief-of-Staff can also be found at the bottom of the website.
And as some sort of a joke, when you click "Meet Claire Underwood" in the right menu, you get a page that displays an error 404 and a message that says, "Claire not found." Remember Claire walked out on Frank Underwood at the end of Season 3.
