While the Samsung gear is already out and that the Sony PlayStation VR will also hit the market in 2016, there are news suggesting that Valve and HTC are also working on a Virtual Reality Headset and that images of the said gear have been leaked online. According to a Reddit thread photos of the HTC Vive and controllers were leaked from the company's website.
The official website for HTC Vive says the VR headset "was developed in conjunction with Valve, creators of such ground-breaking games as Portal and Half-Life.
"HTC manufactures some of the finest consumer electronics on the planet and Valve is an unrivaled architect of virtual worlds, so you know the collaboration is something special. Vive is powered by Valve's SteamVR so plenty of games that take advantage of its capabilities will soon be available on the Steam service."
According to Polygon, HTC has not given a word if those pictures were authentic. However that confirmation would likely happen somehow at CES 2016 that will kick off on Jan 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Moreover, the HTC Vive was reportedly supposed to come out this year but the company has decided to delay the release.
In an interview with Endgadget, HTC CEO Cher Wang has explained that "Valve and her team made "a very, very big technological breakthrough" that they want to announce at CES 2016 and this is the reason why the release is pushed back to April 2016. Wang reportedly did not further talk about this "technological breakthrough" instead she said, "We shouldn't make our users swap their systems later just so we could meet the December shipping date."
According to Endgadget HTC Vive will not be limited to playing games along. HTC is wooing hospitals, schools and car dealerships to take advantage of its virtual reality headset.
