Prison Break fans could breath deeply already as the action series will be back for the fifth season next year. This time, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will be the leading characters for the season. As Fox confirmed, Prison Break will return to Fox in 2016 with 10 episodes.
Co-Chairman and CEO Dana Walden announced at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, as reported by TV Line, in August, “I would describe it as a bit of a sequel. It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. I don’t think [exec producer] Paul [Scheuring] knows exactly where he’s going over the 10-episode arc, but it definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience."
“This is the pure vision of the creator of the show,” Walden added. “It’s going to take a little bit of a detour from where we left off [with the straight-to-DVD coda], but it should feel very satisfying and event-ized. Fans will be excited about seeing these characters back together again.”
In the upcoming season of Prison Break, the showrunners hinted how Michael Scofield will still be alive. Apparently, he survives the electrocution due to weak electricity voltage and will be comatose in a hospital. He gets help from Paul Kellerman, the secret service agent who helped him take down The Company. He will wake up from coma after six years.
Alongside Michael Scofield, his wife, Dr. Sara Tancredo (Sarah Wayne Callies), will also be coming back to Prison Break. She was shown pregnant in the previous season. However, an article on Christian Post said that no one has asked Callies yet regarding the role. But, she is excited if given the opportunity to continue the Michael-Sara story.
There was no announcement yet about the season’s air date. However, it is expected to come back as early as March 2016.
