A Rancho Mirage, Calif., home that was once taken up by the famous "White Christmas" crooner Bing Crosby has come on the market for $5 million.
This is, however, not the first time the residence has hit the market. It last listed for $3.49 million in 2012 but delisted the following year only to come back asking 43 percent more than what it previously asked.
The Wall Street Journal broke news of the home hitting the market, even before it could list officially. The Journal interviewed owner Robert Teller, an ice-cream chain operator, about the home who revealed that the house was built by Crosby in the 1950s. Teller reportedly bought the home for $2.62 million in 2005 and had it renovated extensively.
Teller told the Journal that he was an ardent fan of Crosby and his childhood home was just a few blocks away from Crosby's house in Los Angeles. Therefore, when he learnt of the fact that it once belonged to the "Swinging on a Star" singer, he was apparently "hooked" to the house.
The residence in question here is a 6,700-square-foot single-family home, comprising of six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms.
The house now boasts of contemporary interiors with stone-tiled flooring, an open floor plan with large glass slider doors and drywall ceilings. However, the old-world charm has also been preserved with some wooden doors.
Living spaces include several sitting room, a formal drawing room, a dining space, a gourmet kitchen with a breakfast bar and granite countertops. The bedrooms have plush en-suite bathrooms with tubs and shower spaces.
Outside, the home has a vast manicured lawn with a pool and a spa. An adjacent empty lot is also being offered for the price tag for future expansion.
Marc Lange of HOM Sotheby's International Realty shares the listing with Carl Blea of the same agency. Lange told the Journal that the recent rumors of President Obama buying a home in the area has spurred a lot of interest among buyers to the area and therefore, the prices have gone up in a short span of time.
