'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Director Reveals Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness Are Back as Obi-Wan Kenobi

Star Wars fans were thrilled to have seen their favorite characters from the previous Star Wars installments like Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and R2D2, in the continuation of the saga. Some, however, are missing the other character that we have come to love through the years, like the Jedi masters Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda.

What fans are probably not aware of is that these characters are present in 'The Force Awakens.' But before we get into details, let this be a spoiler alert for those who haven't watched the movie yet. And, seriously, what's taking you so long?

Entertainment Weekly reports that during an interview with director J.J. Abrams and Star Wars' screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt, they have confirmed that the Obi Wan Kenobi actors Ewan McGregor (Star Wars 1-3) and the late Alec Guinness (Star Wars 4-6), as well as Yoda voiced by Frank Oz, are in fact included in the new film. In the scene when Rey finds Luke's old lightsaber in the basement of Maz kanata's place, the scavenger played by actress Daisy Ridley had a vision. As she tries to touch it, she goes into a dreamlike sequence which features a montage of fires while Luke Skywalker cries out for comfort. Then, comes images of Kylo Ren and his men surrounded with bodies which they killed. The nightmare-like sequence then depicts her as a child, being abandoned at Jakku, with the junk dealer Unkar Plutt. In this part, Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda's voices could be heard. These are the actual voices of Ewan McGregor, Alec Guinness and Frank Oz, made possible by the movie crew's superb movie editing skills.

Abrams explains, "The idea of the voices was, we wanted the audience to feel - but not necessarily be presented right in your face - this idea that familiar, Force-strong voices were connecting with her. At least as well as they could."
