Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band made their first return to the "Saturday Night Live" stage in 13 years, as the musical guest for the episode hosted by "SNL" albums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on December 19. Not only that, but The Beatles' Sir Paul McCartney also joined the Christmas cheer!
Apparently, the E Street Band, along with Springsteen, played three songs on the Christmas episode. Rolling Stone reports:
"Springsteen and the E Street Band, as a preview for their extensive 'The River' tour in 2016, first busted out the live debut of 'Meet Me in the City,' one of the many unreleased tracks from the productive 'River' sessions that were finally untethered from the vaults for 'The Ties That Bind.' Springsteen followed that up with an exhilarating rendition of 'The River''s opening track 'The Ties That Bind,' which featured a solo by saxophonist Jake Clemons, the nephew of the late Clarence 'The Big Man' Clemons."
The never before released song, "Meet Me in the City," is included on Bruce Springsteen's new box set, "The Ties That Bind: The River Collection."
Before the surprise appearance actually happened, "Saturday Night Live" already shared the news on Instagram. Simply captioned with some clapping hands emojis, the pic features no other than Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen.
It's been so a while since Paul and Bruce last shared a stage together. According to Billboard:
"This was the first time Springsteen and McCartney shared the stage since appearing together at a 2012 concert in London that went past curfew, resulting in the pulling of the plug. In a similar moment, NBC cut the performance of 'Santa Claus' before the song concluded."
