The trailer for "X-Men: Apocalypse" has been recently released, but there are some controversies surrounding it before the movie premieres in 2016.
International Business Times reports that the trailer for "X-Men: Apocalypse shows the antagonist, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) saying, "I have been called many things over many lifetimes... Ram, Krishna, Yahweh..." Apparently, the mention of the name of the Hindu deity Krishna has offended some spiritual leaders. Comic book fans are familiar with the character that is known to be the primary nemesis of the X-Men. He is also known to be the oldest mutant alive who is believed to have been around since the evolution of mankind.
According to Movie News Guide, a self-appointed Hindu leader named Rajan Zed, President of the Nevada-based Universal Society of Hinduism, expressed his thoughts on the trailer and said in a Twitter post that the mention of the deity in the trailer is inappropriate.
He added that a villain claiming to be like Krishna in the movie is highly disturbing for the people who are looking upon Krishna's name with utmost respect. He demanded that director Brian Singer remove the reference on the trailer and in the movie immediately.
Zed also offered to provide training which involves religious and cultural sensitivity to the directors in Hollywood. As of writing, Singer has not yet made a comment on the claims of Zed and has not confirmed if he is willing to accept the religious leader's request.
However, many people think that Zed may not fully understand that the reference was only meant for fictional purposes and not to offend the Hindu religion. Some even explain that the use of Krishna's name has nothing to do with the deity itself, so there is no need to remove it.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be released on May 27, 2016.
