The world took a pause as Miss Universe ended in an unusual way. The beauty pageant's host made the headlines after making an error in announcing the winners. The host, Steve Harvey, announced Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the first runner up, while Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, was given the crown. Everything went by smoothly, a few minutes after announcing the winners however, Harvey went back on stage apologizing for wrongfully announcing the wrong winners.
Harvey then corrected his mistake by stripping Miss Colombia off her crown and gave it to Miss Philippines. Both ladies were quite shocked with what happened. Miss Colombia gracefully reacted to her defeat by telling the reporters back stage stating that "everything happens for a reason, thank you for voting for me."
Miss Philippines on the other hand stated that she wanted to win, but she felt sorry for Miss Colombia. Wurtzbach told NBC News that: "I felt calm when I was called first runner-up because I felt it was fate. But when they announced that I was Miss Universe, I had mixed emotions. I was happy because I really wanted to win but felt sad for Miss Colombia,"
The girls may have paraded their beauties all throughout the night, but the person that stood among them is still the host, Steven Harvey. He gathered numerous negative feedback in regards to his wrong announcement. One of which is from Justin Bieber. The singer posted a photo of himself, changing his face with Harvey's cropped photo, which he then captioned: "It's so sad but this is too funny had to post no disrespect."
