"Game of Thrones" creators decided to change some scenes after Sansa Stark's wedding day rape scene caused outrage. As per E!, the scene wherein Sansa was raped on her wedding night caused an outage which triggered the creators to make several changes due to the "ongoing discussions."
"Game of Thrones" director Jeremy Podeswa, who will be directing the first two episodes for the series' 6th season, told Forbes that he's already aware that the scene would trigger discussions and debates.
"It was a difficult and brutal scene and we knew it was going to be challenging for the audience. But it was very important to us in the execution that it would not be exploited in any way. To be fair, the criticism was the notion of it, not the execution. It was handled as sensitively as it could possibly be; you hardly see anything, I welcomed the discussion about the depiction of violence on television and how it could be used as a narrative tool sometimes and the questionable nature of that. We were aware ahead of time that it was going to be disturbing but we did not expect there would be people in Congress talking about it."
As for Sophie Tuner on the other hand, she stated that she secretly agreed with the twist, and as a matter of fact, she "loved it."
"When I read that scene, I kinda loved it, I love the way Ramsay [who is portrayed by Iwan Rheon] had Theon [who is portrayed by Alfie Allen] watching. It was all so messed up. It's also so daunting for me to do it. I've been making producer Bryan Cogman feel so bad for writing that scene: 'I can't believe you're doing this to me!' But I secretly loved it."
In regards to the film's violence against women on the other hand, George R.R. Martin stated that the violence was greatly influenced by the patriarchal society in the middle ages.
