Miss Universe 2015 Mix-up is Allegedly a Publicity Stunt Says Conspiracy Theories

"Miss Universe" 2015 concluded with a bang as host Steve Harvey mistakenly proclaimed Miss Colombia as Miss Universe instead of Miss Philippines.

While Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was waving to the crowd celebrating her victory being the second Miss Universe of their country after last year's win of Paulina Vega, the host came to the stage to correct his mistake, revealing that Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is the real winner.

“I have to apologize. The first runner up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines,” Harvey said as he interrupted Miss Colombia's glory, according to News.com.au. "It was my fault. Please don't hold it against the ladies."

With that, Miss Universe Wurztbach, who was still in shock, walked beside Miss Colombia to claim her crown.

But conspiracy theories said that the incident is a well-orchestrated publicity stunt and that someone is responsible for switching the results. Other speculations reveal that it is a plot to make Harvey famous again. Harvey is the host of the game show, "Family Feud."

Reports said that the Miss Universe Snapchat shows that it is the teleprompter's mistake which stated that the Miss Universe is Miss Colombia. But after the event, Harvey said that it was his mistake since instead of saying "runner-up," he said "winner," USA Today reported.

Said incident also bring limelight to the event. Last year, the finale has 7.6 million viewers which is the highest recorded this decade. But this year's Miss Universe was bigger with #MissUniverse2015 as the top trending topic on Twitter and Facebook around the world especially when the wrong winner was announced, Independent reported.

Meanwhile, the Miss Universe organization released a statement without blaming a particular person. The statement reads: "The excitement of live TV was evident tonight on The Miss Universe stage with over 10 million live fan votes tabulated. Unfortunately, a live telecast means that human error can come into play. We witnessed that tonight when the wrong winner was initially announced. Our sincerest apologies to Miss Universe Colombia 2015, Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo, Miss Universe Philippines 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, their families and fans."

Indeed, the ending is a “very non-traditional crowning” like what Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach said adding that it is "very 2015."

Because of Harvey's mistake, this year's pageant will surely cement a place in Miss Universe history.
