It was only late last year that the Honda Civic Si hit the US market but it already has widespread suggestions that it will be powered by a detuned Type R engine.
It is reported in the CivicX forum by a member that the new Civic Si will hit the market as a 2017 model year and it will be launched late in 2016 or in early 2017. The Type R engine of the new Civic Si would be restricted to around 230 hp.
According to the report of Carscoops news, this new Civic Si, like the latest Civic Type R, it will be available exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. There are also other components from the Type R that will be used by the 2017 Honda Civic Si but no confirmation just yet what those parts are.
The new Civic Si appears to be launched before the new Type R based on latest-generation Civic available in coupe, sedan and hatchback body styles. While the Euro-market Type R delivers around 306 hp, the Japanese automaker doesn't know yet if they intend on lifting power of its successor but there's a possibility that they will do so.
The 2016 Honda Civic Si is expected to launch either in late next year or early 2017 in the U.S., according to an anonymous source of CivicX forum.
Indiana Autos Blog posted that when the regular 2016 Honda Civic Si and Honda Civic Type-R are compared, the 2016 Honda Civic Si is likely to pack a bigger 2.0L VTEC Turbo engine and if powered by a detuned Type R engine, it could produce 230 hp, sending power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
Suggestions heard about the Honda Civic Si from CivicX forum give an idea as to what to expect, with respect to exterior design. Compared to the regular model, the latest Honda Civic Si will feature a sportier body kit with bigger intakes, lower ride height, revised grille, large alloy rims, and a small rear wing.
